Nola Iona Warren, 78, of Pitcairn Island, a member of the dwindling band of descendants of British sailors who mutinied on the ship H.M.S. Bounty in 1789, died yesterday, February 10, 2019, in New Zealand on a bus returning to Auckland from Wellington.

Mrs. Warren, born Nola Iona Young on Pitcairn Island on April 24,1941, was four hours into a journey from Wellington to Auckland when she suddenly collapsed and died, according to her cousin Iris who was traveling with her. Her death came just as she was arriving in Auckland.

Warren had been visiting friends in New Zealand from her home on Pitcairn for some time, according to neighbors on Pitcairn island. During her life she had traveled abroad a number of times and was well-known by thousands of friends throughout the world.

She has one son, Barry Ronald Young, who lives in California in the United States. Her husband, Reynold Carl Warren, died about two months ago on Pitcairn.

There are now fewer than 50 descendants of the mutineers now living on Pitcairn, a one-mile-wide by two-miles-long volcanic outcropping in the ocean located about midway between Panama and New Zealand. Funeral services are pending, according to Pitcairner Meralda Warren.
