News ReleaseFrench Navy transports school teacher couple to PitcairnANGWIN (Napa County) Calif., January 20, 2003The ending of
service of the shipping company that has regularly served Pitcairn Island
for the past few years, has caused government officials to turn to the
French Navy, based at Papeete, Tahiti, to get a new school teacher to
the island. On January 15, the French Navy's vessel REVI arrived
off the island. On board were Allen and Jude Cox to serve as island
school teachers for a one-year term. The Coxes are not strangers to
Pitcairn having served for two previous terms. Also on board the French warship was a four-member
television crew which during the three days of the vessel's call at
the island, took motion picture footage for future presentations.
