FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the dates of departure and return?

We are scheduled to leave San Francisco on June 15 2009 and return from Mozambique on June 25, 2009.

How much would I have to pay to go?

The estimate costs for travel, lodging, food, and insurance is about $3.200.00

If I need to do some fundraising, is the PUC Church going to assist me on that?

Yes, definitely! The group organizers will provide you with template letters you can use to send to people you know requesting financial assistance. There is also information available with suggestions on what to say if you contact friends and relatives by phone requesting their help. Written instructions will be provided to the participants.

Is there a registration fee or deposit?

This detail is still being worked out.

Is lodging and food included in the total project fee?

Yes. Lodging can be very simple. In some cases, it may consist of tents. However, it is included in the fee quoted above.

What is the deadline to sign up?

At this point, the deadline has been set to January 31st, 2009.

Where in Mozambique are we going to?

We are going to a place in the South of Mozambique called Chinonguene, in the Gaza Province, 10 miles from the town of Xai Xai.

What type of work would I be doing?

The major task we have been assigned to is the construction of a church. If everything goes as planned, when we get to the location there will be a cement slab and a metal frame already set up. Bricks, other materials and equipment will be delivered to the site and our job will be to put the bricks together to form the walls. We will be also setting up the roof.

Is there opportunity to travel and to see places in Mozambique or nearby countries?

Yes, definitely! There is a trip planned to the Kruger Park in South Africa and some we will be visiting some sites in the Maputo area.

Who is the project director?

The project director is Amy Rebok Rosenthal, an Assistant Professor at the college’s Department of History and Social Studies and a specialist in African history.

Where can I find information about passports, visas, vaccination and other travel information?

We will be providing you this information in writing to the people who sign up to go with this group to Mozambique.

What should I take with me?

Ultimately, this is your choice, but Maranatha Volunteers International has some suggestions about items to take. That list will be made available to you if you sign up.

I have a friend who is not a PUC student and is not a member of the PUC Church. Can he or she sign up to go?

Yes, by all means.

What kind of weather am I going to find there?
