title "Secretary to the Governor" while living on Pitcairn Island. He had nine children with Esther Godfrey Coffin, none

Raymond George Pettigrew was born circa 1927. He married Oris Kein Warren, daughter of Wallace Maynard Warren and Maria Johnston, in 1952. He died on December 23, 1952, at Pitcairn Island and he was buried in the island cemetery. He had arrived on December 5, 1952 on Pitcairn with his new bride, a former island girl, and was fatally shot while hunting goats. (Pacific Islands Monthly, Jan. 1952). He was an engineer.

Arthur Quintal was born on Pitcairn Island on May 6, 1795. He was the son of Matthew
Quintal and Tevarua (?). He married, first, Catherine McCoy, daughter of William
McCoy and Teio (?), in 1816, on Pitcairn Island. The later married Mary Christian,
daughter of Charles Christian and Sully (?), on May 3, 1835, on Pitcairn Island.
He died on November 19, 1873, at age 78 on Norfolk Island. Arthur Quintal held
the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island between 1840 and 1841. One day,
Arthur and his best friend, Daniel McCoy, swam out to a rock a considerable distance
from the shore, and there agreed to seek each one the other's sister for a wife.
That place is now known as "Tane M'A' (Place of the men's agreement). This
is the same Arthur Quintal who treated another sister, Jane, so harshly when she
'strayed from the path of virtue,' that Jane left the island never to return.
When Captain Beechey was on the island in 1808, Arthur was the 'Leader of the
Pitcairn Band.' He sat on the ground before a large gourd, and with his toes,
he worked a piece of musical wood (Porou) and he beat the gourd with two sticks
held in his hands. Later, he was a strong opponent of Joshua Hill. (For the children

of Arthur and Mary Christian were Absolom Quintal, who was born on June 17, 1836,
and died on June 14, 1868; Nathaniel Quintal, who was born on November 7, 1837,

Edward Quintal was born in 1800 on Pitcairn Island. He was the son of Matthew
Quintal and Teraura (?). He married Dinah Adams, daughter of John Adams and Vahineatua
(?), on March 4, 1819, on Pitcairn Island. He died on Pitcairn Island on September
8, 1841. In 1833, Edward was appointed a Pitcairn elder by Joshua Hill. When Hill
first came to Pitcairn, Edward attracted his particular notice. Indeed, Edward
stood by Hill to the last, although this bias did not pass to his children. His
temper was well- known. In one dispute with John Evans, who was a very small man,
he brought the matter to termination by lifting Evans over his head and throwing
him into a pig-sty, causing him serious injury. Edward was an honest man, but
severe and straight-laced. In general, he opposed the entry of the three Englishmen
(Buffett, Evans, and Nobbs) to Pitcairn, and especially resented their leadership
role, feeling that the leadership should be among the native Pitcairners. He held
the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island between 1838 and 1839. The children

Edward Quintal was born on Pitcairn Island on June 2, 1844. He was the son of
Maria Christian and William Quintal. He died on Pitcairn Island on March 24, 1855,
at age 10, from tetanus. While playing, he pierced his foot with a barbed arrow
(used for taking fish from holes in rocks), and within two days he had died of
tetanus. His uncle, George Nobbs, recalled that although he was in intense pain,
and he knew he was dying, he expressed no fear of dath, and died saying, "Lord
Jesus receive my spirit."

He later married Angelina Ophelia McCoy, daughter of Philip McCoy and Sarah Quintal,
on January 16, 1873, on Norfolk Island. He died on January 4, 1901, at the age

of William Quintal and Maria Christian, on September 26, 2895, on Norfolk Island.
He died after 1910. Fairfax Moresby Mitchell Quintal went by the nick-name of
Faccie. The children of Fairfax and Sarah Harriet Selwyn Quintal were Lilian Mary
Quintal, Lorna Maria Quintal, and Rita Hazel Moresby Quintal.

on January 21, 1851. She was the daughter of Maria Christian and William Quintal.
Frances died on Norfolk Island on June 28, 1912. On Norfolk Island on November
28, 1867, Frances married Gilbert Warren Fysh Adams, the son of John Adams and
Caroline Quintal. Frances also went by the nick-name of Fanny. From November 18,
