December 14, 1926, Haywood Christian, aged seventy-two years. Brother Haywood
was a man of long Christian experience. He was always at the prayer meeting, and
his prayer and testimony were always encouraging. Coming down the ladder from
the S.S. Rotorua, he fell, striking the gunwale of the boat several feet below.
He was rescued from the water by those in the boat and taken home, but died within
two hours. Brother Haywood was one of the oldest residents on the island, having
been born there in 1854. His faith in God was strong and clear. He was laid to
rest in the little cemetery down among the palm groves, where the orange trees
blossom, and the wild waves lend their ceaseless music. We look forward to a glad
and glorious resurrection when the Redeemer comes. The glow of noontide or the
shaded gloaming, Can never waken now, the day is done; Sleep on, brave heart,
sleep on in quiet, waiting The rising of an everlasting sun! - R. Hare."
