No animal in the Amazon is more feared and more respected than the "spirit of the river" -- The Anaconda. It haunts swamps and shallow streams where it remains virtually invisible even to the trained eye. It is the world's largest and most powerful snake. When its massive coils loop around its prey, few escape. Death comes from total circulatory collapse within seconds. Fully grown, it can approach a length of thirty feet and weigh close to a quarter of a ton. Physically, no animal in the new world can match its strength. More at home in the water than on land, the Anaconda stands alone at the top of the hierarchy of predators in the Amazon.

The intent was to give them supportive care back in their communities. But the money for community mental health programs never materialized. Instead, many released patients ended up in grossly inadequate housing or on back streets all over America. Filmed throughout the country, we see shocking examples of living conditions. But there are also examples of successful community treatment programs where patients are led back to normal life. It takes money and care, but it can be done.

In 1880, General Lew Wallace could have written a novel about his real life adventures with Billy the Kid and other frontier desperados or of his exploits as the U.S. Minister to Turkey. Instead, he focused on a topic not as familiar to him -- the Holy Land during the life of Christ -- a time in history that had the greatest influence on the development of mankind. Little did he know that it would become the most popular novel of its time, stirring the hearts of readers worldwide. This is the 35th Anniversary Deluxe Letter Box Edition.

The Living Edens Series. There is a place on earth where time stands still -- where nature and religion have combined to turn a tiny Buddhist kingdom into the world's last Shangri-La. Locked between Tibet and India, Bhutan is the jewel of the Himalayas. To the north of the kingdom, towering virgin peaks rise to 25,000 feet. Beneath steep glacial walls, alpine highlands fall to misty forests. Mountain streams cut through gorges on their way down to warmer valleys and wide marshes in the heart of the kingdom. One distinct landscape drops to the next before finally descending to the jungle and grasslands of the southern plains. For the people who have adapted to this domain of extremes, Bhutan is a Living Eden where respect for life, in all its many incarnations, endures like the land itself.
